Wormwood is not safe for dogs to consume as it contains toxic chemicals such as tannins that can harm their liver and kidneys. Even small amounts of wormwood can induce seizures in dogs.
Wormwood contains volatile oils, tannins, and bitter principles that can be harmful to dogs. Excessive use of wormwood can irritate the liver and kidneys and damage a dog’s nervous system. The active ingredient called thujone in wormwood can also cause seizures, especially in low doses. Pregnant or lactating dogs, as well as those with seizures or kidney and liver problems, should not be given wormwood.
Wormwood is used as a herbal remedy to treat various parasites that can infect a dog's gastrointestinal tract, including tapeworms, roundworms, threadworms, and pinworms. The proper dosage of wormwood for dogs should be determined by a veterinarian. Too high a dosage can be toxic, while too low a dosage may be ineffective. Wormwood should not be used for more than three consecutive days and is not to be used as a dietary supplement for dogs. Only use wormwood as directed by a veterinarian.
